Emergency Housing Fund for Former Hostage Vicken Euljekjian
Vicken Euljekjian was kidnapped by Azerbaijani forces on November 10, 2020, during the Second Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh War, while a ceasefire was in effect. Independent monitoring of his detention was severely restricted for most of his captivity, undermining fundamental safeguards against torture. Following increasing restrictions on the ICRC’s access and its eventual withdrawal from Azerbaijan in 2025, his situation remained largely unknown until his release on January 15, 2026. Since his release from captivity, Vicken has been living in Yerevan, where he is undergoing extensive medical treatment for injuries sustained during his captivity. He has been officially classified as having a Group III disability. Due to severe chronic conditions, limited mobility, hearing loss, and cardiovascular risks, he continues to face significant limitations in daily life and his ability to work. Despite repeated appeals to relevant government agencies, he currently has no stable housing and relies on support from friends and relatives. His family, based in Lebanon, is also struggling to cover his high medical expenses, while he navigates treatment in Armenia largely on his own. As the Armenian government has so far failed to provide adequate rehabilitation and resettlement support, Aghmoog Collective has launched this emergency fundraiser to cover Vicken’s housing costs for the duration of his medical treatment. Vicken needs an accessible apartment near his hospital in Yerevan. The estimated monthly rent and utilities for a suitable apartment he has found are $700 USD. The current fundraising goal covers an initial six months of housing, with the possibility of extension depending on the duration of his treatment and his recovery needs. Importantly, the fundraising goal covers only housing costs. Still, we strongly encourage you to donate what you can, as any additional funds will go toward his medical expenses and easing the financial burden on his family. Vicken and his family sincerely thank you for your kindness and support. Fundraiser by Vicken… Read more…
