Azerbaijan announces trial date for Armenian hostages held in Baku

The preparatory court hearing is set for January 17

The date for the trial of the Armenian hostages currently in detention in Baku has been announced in the Azerbaijani media. According to the information, the preparatory hearing for the criminal case has been scheduled for January 17.

The indictment for the criminal case against the fifteen was approved by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 16, 2024, and sent to the relevant authorities for consideration at the Baku Military Court. The case has been assigned to Judge Zeynal Aghayev, the chairman of the court.

Two separate trials

There are currently 23 Armenian hostages acknowledged by Azerbaijan. Seven of the 23 have had show trials and been convicted. According to Azerbaijani media reports, two trials are set to take place; one for the fifteen, and one for Ruben Vardanyan, whose indictment in the criminal case was approved by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 28, 2024, and submitted to the Baku Military Court for consideration.
