“We Are Ready to Go to Baku”: Davit Ishkhanyan’s Son Gives Exclusive Interview to ABC Media

The families of Davit Ishkhanyan and the other Armenian prisoners held in Baku are prepared to travel to Baku to visit their relatives, Davit Ishkhanyan’s son, Armen Ishkhanyan, said in an exclusive interview with ABC Media.

“Not only has Ruben Vardanyan’s family expressed readiness, but we — all the families of the prisoners — have expressed our readiness to go. We are currently discussing this issue with the relevant bodies,” Armen Ishkhanyan said.

The Ishkhanyan family last spoke with Davit Ishkhanyan on May 6. Asked about the impact of the absence of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Azerbaijan on the families and their imprisoned relatives, Armen Ishkhanyan said:

“Because of the absence of the International Committee of the Red Cross, we are unable to send food and hygiene supplies, and we also have no information about the detention conditions.”

According to Davit Ishkhanyan’s son, during his father’s captivity, the family met with Armenia’s Human Rights Defender only once.

“During these two and a half years, we met with the Human Rights Defender only once, and that was on our own initiative. We raised several issues, to which she promised to provide answers, but to this day, there have been no answers. Anahit Manasyan said that she is in contact with her Azerbaijani counterpart and would try to help us on certain issues,” Armen Ishkhanyan concluded.

It should be recalled that on May 6, Davit Ishkhanyan sent an audio message from a prison in Baku. He addressed Armenia’s Human Rights Defender and the Armenian people. Today, Ruben Vardanyan also issued a message from a prison in Baku, speaking about inhumane prison conditions.
