Prime Minister Pashinyan reaffirms daily efforts to release Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan

The Government of Armenia is carrying out daily work toward the return of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan. According to “Armenpress,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assured this in a conversation with journalists.

“As for our compatriots who are in captivity or imprisonment, we are doing daily work in that direction. Suppose there is an opinion that this issue must be resolved for the peace issue to be resolved as well. In that case, I say that the more favorable the environment between Armenia and Azerbaijan becomes, the easier it will be to resolve that issue. In other words, this is a matter of perspective,” said the Prime Minister.

Pashinyan believes that peace will resolve all other issues. “The perception that we must solve all issues first and only then have a peace agreement is absolutely incorrect. This is a living process. If we had followed that logic, we would not have reached this point in the peace process,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, this is why the Government is trying to show as flexible an approach as possible, which at any given moment maximally corresponds to Armenia’s state interests.

Azerbaijan officially confirms that it is holding about 23 Armenian prisoners, among whom are also representatives of the former military-political leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh.
