Catholicos Aram I and the Patriarch of Russia also discussed the issue of Armenian prisoners

On September 19, within the framework of the international interfaith summit held in Kazakhstan, Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia met with Patriarch Kirill of Russia.

During the meeting, the two spiritual leaders discussed prospects for the further development of the historical relations between the Armenian and Russian Churches.

“Beyond religious issues, the conversation also touched upon Armenia-Russia relations, Azerbaijan’s occupation of Artsakh, the attitude of the Baku authorities toward Armenian churches and cultural-historical monuments, as well as the condition of Artsakh’s political and national figures being held in Azerbaijani prisons,” the Catholicosate of Cilicia said in a statement.

His Holiness emphasized that the Armenian people would be deeply grateful if Russian President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Kirill showed the necessary intervention to help preserve Artsakh’s spiritual and cultural heritage and secure the prompt release of Armenian prisoners.
