Armenia is conducting intensive work to achieve the release of the Armenian POWs held in Azerbaijan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan has said.
“Naturally, not just now, we’ve been working intensively in the direction of achieving the release of the prisoners since the end of the 2020 war,” he said at the APRI 2025 forum.
“We often don’t talk about this in public, but large-scale work is done in this direction. Often, public discussions can harm such processes,” Grigoryan warned.
“The release of all prisoners is a daily agenda item for the government. We will continue to work, and we hope that they will return to Armenia as soon as possible,” Grigoryan said.
The POWs and other detainees unlawfully held in Azerbaijan include former Nagorno-Karabakh politicians, ex-presidents Arayik Harutyunyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arkady Ghukasyan, former State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, and others, who are facing a sham trial on fabricated charges.
