The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Françoise Jacob, has responded to a letter delivered to the UN office in Yerevan during a protest action regarding Armenian prisoners of war, announced Mane Tandilyan, co-founder of the Country to Live party, on Facebook.
“We have received a response from UN Resident Coordinator Françoise Jacob regarding the letter submitted as part of our action at the UN office on March 14. The response indicates that our concerns and message have been forwarded to the relevant UN bodies, including the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Secretariat. In turn, we have requested a meeting with Françoise Jacob to discuss the progress of the issues we raised,” Tandilyan wrote.
The party continues to demand that UN representatives urgently visit the Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan and attend the trials being conducted against them.
On March 14, a group of citizens protested in front of the UN office in Yerevan, urging international organizations to take concrete actions to protect the Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku. The protesters emphasized that trials in Azerbaijan are conducted behind closed doors and lack transparency, while international organizations, including the UN, have limited themselves to issuing statements.
Mane Tandilyan, co-founder of the Country to Live party, called on the UN to fulfill its mandate by attending the trials, reporting on the prisoners’ health conditions, and addressing rights violations. The demonstrators demanded that UN representatives visit the Armenian prisoners, participate in the trials to ensure transparency, and exert international pressure on Azerbaijan to end these violations of rights.
